PA 212 Head Lawyer Touches on Cases of Jokowi Camp

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An advocate of Muslim Lawyer Team, Ahmad Michdan, admitted of having shock after hearing the 212 alumni brotherhood (PA 212) chairman Slamet Maarif was named a suspect. “We did not expect it,” said Michdan Monday, February 11.

According to Michdan, his client had received a summon letter issued by Surakarta Resort Police as a suspect for allegedly campaigned outside a designated campaign period. “I have confirmed it directly to the police,” he added.

Michdan admitted that he never thought the case would be further processed considering similar cases had not been continued. “Even some cases are just closed by Bawaslu (Election Supervisory Board),” he noted.

Bawaslu, Michdan mentioned, decided that Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani did not commit illegal campaign after making a one-finger pose for Jokowi - Ma’ruf during a closing ceremony of IMF-World Bank annual meeting held in Nusa Dua, Bali, last October.

The police also issued a termination letter on the investigation into the Indonesia Solidarity Party (PSI) that allegedly started a campaign outside the designated period by advertising a commercial in a printed media.

Michdan opined that difference handlings of alleged campaign violation cases did not provide a sense of justice. “All reports on teams from incumbent parties (Jokowi - Ma'ruf) have never been continued,” he underlined.

However, Slamet Maarif had a good intention by willingly undergoing the legal proceeding. “Slamet will present in the investigation tomorrow [Wednesday],” Michdan said.
